Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. Recalls Snowmobiles for Projectile Hazard

The hazard

Cracks can appear in the starter ring gears, causing ring gear fragmentation at high speeds. The debris can act as a projectile, causing injury or death to riders or bystanders.

Incidents reported: BRP has received six reported incidents of fragmentation. There have been three reported injuries, including a laceration to a rider's foot that required stitches and one rider, who suffered a fractured toe.

What to do now

Consumers with recalled snowmobiles are being sent direct notice from BRP. Consumers should stop using these vehicles immediately and contact a local Ski-Doo dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair.

About this recall

The recall involves all models and packages of the Model Years 2005 and 2006 Mach Z and all models and packages of the Model Year 2006 MX Z Renegade 1000 Ski-Doo® snowmobiles. The Mach Z model was available in black and the MXZ model was available in black or yellow. Model name is located on the side panels.
