CPSC, Mintek Digital Inc. Announce Recall of Portable DVD Player Batteries

The hazard

The battery can overheat and explode while recharging, posing a burn and fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents reported: Mintek has received 10 reports of incidents, including nine cases of the battery pack overheating and/or catching fire and one report of the battery pack overheating and bursting.

What to do now

The company is out of business and a remedy is no longer available. Please discard the battery pack appropriately. The product may still be used on AC power.

Full official description

The recall involves battery packs used with the Mintek portable DVD players with a 7" (diagonal) screen and model number DVD-1710. "Mintek DVD-1710" is printed on the top and bottom of the unit. The DVD player is silver and gray colored and the battery pack is silver with a nameplate on the bottom that is marked RB-LiP01 or RB-LiP02.
