CPSC, Once Upon a Family Announce Recall of Memory Trunks

SuffocationFall

The hazard

The lid can fall on a child who is looking or reaching inside, entrapping the child at the neck, which poses a risk of strangulation. Also, the lid can close and self-fasten, entrapping the child inside the trunk, which poses a suffocation hazard.

Incidents reported: CPSC and Once Upon A Family are aware of one incident where the lid of a trunk fell on a 2-year-old boy, entrapping him between the lid and the base. The child was not injured.

What to do now

Consumers should keep the Memory Trunk out of reach of children and contact the firm to receive a free repair kit. The repair kit includes a warning sticker and a padlock so that the Memory Trunk can be locked. Consumers can also request a free replacement lid that is not attached by hinges, which eliminates the risks of entrapment and strangulation.

Contact: For more information, call Once Upon a Family at (800) 377-6823 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm's Web site at www.onceuponafamily.net. The firm is also directly contacting customers about this recall.
