Tap Enterprises Inc. Recalls Air Compressors Due to Fire and Electrocution Hazards

The hazard

An undersized power cord can overheat and pose a fire hazard. In addition, improper assembly of the power cord strain relief component and improper routing of internal conductors can cause a shock hazard to consumers.

Incidents reported: The firm has received 40 reports of compressors failing to work, including two incidents of smoke and fire. One incident resulted in $30,000 worth of property damage to a stand-alone garage. No injuries have been reported.

What to do now

Consumers should stop using the 2-gallon mini compressors immediately and contact Cummins for a refund of the purchase price, including shipping.

About this recall

The mini-pancake air compressors were sold with yellow-, blue-, gray- or silver-painted tanks. Item #2112 and "CUMMINS INDUSTRIAL TOOLS, AIR COMPRESSOR (OILESS), 110V.60Hz, 2 Gallon, Made in China" can be found on the motor housing.
